Mexican Meat Industry Council to Meet In Corpus Christi
A
group of industry leaders within the Mexican meat trade, the
Consejo Mexicano De La Carne, recently
hosted their membership meeting in Corpus Christi.This group
comprised of about 70 members, representing importers, exporters,
distributors, meat packers and special suppliers to the meat
industry was in Corpus Christi on Thursday, July 17 for a two
day meeting, which included their annual membership meeting on
July 18.
“ The Port was excited to have this distinguished group of leaders from
the Mexico meat industry here in Corpus Christi. This was an ideal opportunity
to showcase our City and its many opportunities for business, as well as, leisure
activities. This time was another step towards building more refrigerated cargo
trade with our neighbor, Mexico,” said Ruben Bonilla, Chairman, Port Commission.
For their visit, the Port of Corpus created a one-day forum at the Ortiz Center
aimed at exploring and developing business opportunities between Corpus Christi
and Mexico.
Key speakers included HEB Director of Global Sourcing Doug Macy
who will discuss their expansion in Mexico. Phil Taylor of Outlands
in New Zealand addressed new trends in New Zealand meat exports.
Taylor is the only exporter of certified natural beef and organic
beef. One of his major customers is Texas-based company, Whole
Foods Market. Jeff Isenmann, Chair of Meat Importers Council
of America (MICA) and Managing Director of AMH Beef Imports for
Swift and Company provided an overview on MICA.
The conference also included of the Port of Corpus Christi Cold
Storage, as well as, informative speakers who addressed agriculture
regulations, border and customs issues, and logistics and chartering
refrigerated vessels.
Opened in 2000, the Port of Corpus Christi’s Cold Storage
has quickly become the port of choice for import frozen and refrigerated
commodities destined for the domestic and Mexican market.
